Eight-person family lives in two homes after being evicted

The council was unable to locate a home large enough to accommodate an eight-person family, so they are now split between two homes divided by a dual road.

There is no room for cots in the one-bedroom house on the A45 where mother Rebecca Fenner resides. It has a double bed and a bunk bed.

Her husband Yassin Amrani remains with their two eldest girls on the opposite side of a dual road at this time.

When their father is away working, the schoolgirls have sometimes had to remain and sleep inside the house by themselves.

According to Ms. Fenner, one of her youngsters referred to her small, loud home as a jail.

When the family returned from Egypt, they were forced to leave their former house.

According to her, she is being “ignored” by the city council, which she complained to BirminghamLive.

My support worker has brought this up, but no one at the council is paying any attention,’ Ms. Fenner said in an interview with BirminghamLive. I’ve sent 50 emails, but no one has responded.

What should I do? I’m getting no attention. I’m requesting to be placed in a self-contained unit. We need to relocate as soon as feasible, I hope.

The desperate mother was given an upstairs room by the council, but she refused it since she felt it was improper due to the stairs.

“This is a terrible scenario. My spouse and I are both no longer able to tolerate it.

According to a Birmingham City Council spokeswoman, “we would prefer not to have to put homeless individuals in temporary homes,” like other councils coping with a nationwide housing crisis.

We offered this family various housing options, such as rooms inside the same building as their existing residence and rooms at a facility designed specifically for homeless people, but they rejected both offers.

We’ll keep looking for more appropriate homes for this family and make sure they hear from a member of our outreach team who can provide assistance and guidance on housing choices, including renting in the private sector.

However, there is a significant demand for permanent homes in Birmingham, therefore all offers will be made in accordance with our housing distribution policy.
