Edward Timpson CBE MP has been appointed as Solicitor General for England and Wales

Edward Timpson CBE MP has been appointed by the Prime Minister to serve as Solicitor General for England and Wales.

The Crown Prosecution Service, the Serious Fraud Office, the Government Legal Department, and HM Crown Prosecution Service Inspectorate are among the Law Officers’ Departments under the Solicitor General’s and Attorney General’s supervision.

In addition, the Solicitor General performs a variety of duties in the public interest, such as deciding whether to refer sentences that are excessively lenient to the Court of Appeal and taking appropriate action where there has been contempt of court.

The Solicitor performs these duties irrespective of his or her position as a government ministry.

The Solicitor General, Edward Timpson CBE MP, commented on his appointment.

It is an honour for me to serve as the Solicitor General for England and Wales.

One of my top responsibilities is to carry on the government’s efforts to restore victims’ trust in our criminal justice system.

In order to contribute to making the law and politics function together at the core of the UK constitution, I look forward to working with the Attorney General, Government attorneys, and the Civil Service.
