Edo government reaffirms commitment to the state’s health care system

Prof. Obehi Akoria, the Edo State Commissioner for Health, has reaffirmed the commitment of the Governor Godwin Obaseki-led administration to decentralise the health care system and develop the sector in order to deliver high-quality healthcare closer to Edo State people.

The goal of the Edo Health Insurance Scheme (EDHIC), according to Prof. Akoria, who made this comment while speaking to journalists, is to lessen the burden of Out-of-Pocket Spending (OOPS) on healthcare so that every resident can access basic healthcare when they need it.

Enrollments into the EDHIC are currently ongoing.

She urged for citizen ownership of current healthcare changes and stressed the significance of healthcare financing in attaining sustainable development and economic growth in the state.

“We need cooperation between Edo people and the government to achieve the changes in healthcare quality that we all seek,” the medical practitioner stated.

The Commissioner said, “Every organisation, community, household, and individual should think and plan for their health as a priority, by making choices that promote their health and seek quality promotive and preventive healthcare.”

He added that health should not be seen as a life aspect to be attended to only when there are obvious signs and symptoms of illness or disease conditions.

Prof. Akoria added that kind-hearted Edo children and adults, both at home and abroad, might “gift” access to healthcare by covering the costs of insurance for less fortunate people.

According to her, doing so “would complement government investments now being made through the Basic Healthcare Provision Fund (BHCPF) in healthcare for the underprivileged.”

The Commissioner also urged Edo State people who are EDHIC participants to give feedback (comments, recommendations, or criticisms) on their experiences to 09016350001, promising that all remarks would be carefully considered.
