Eastern Cape Premier Oscar Mabuyane makes changes Executive Council

The Executive Council of Eastern Cape Premier Oscar Mabuyane has undergone three modifications.

The move of former MEC Xolile Nqata from Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) to Transport and Community Safety was announced by the Premier on Tuesday.

From Human Settlements to Sports, Recreation, Arts & Culture, Nonceba Kontsiwe has transitioned.

Siphokazi Mani-Lusithi has been transferred to the Human Settlements portfolio from the Social Development ministry.

The COGTA portfolio will be handled by the new MEC Zolile Williams.

Ntombovuyo Nkopane replaces Bukiwe Fanta as the new MEC for Public Works and Infrastructure, while Bukiwe Fanta is the new MEC for Social Development.

The Eastern Cape Provincial Government, according to Mabuyane, extends a warm welcome to the new Executive Council members and wishes them well in their respective positions.

The provincial administration also expressed gratitude to the departing MECs, Wezike Tikana and Fezeka Nkomonye, for their outstanding service and wished them well in their future endeavours.

The former MEC for Public Works and Infrastructure wanted to be dismissed from the Executive last month, and the Premier granted her request.

“This required that I conduct an extensive effort to find a long-term solution to filling the gap till the end of this term,” Mabuyane stated.

I have to take into account that the 6th Administration is halfway through its tenure as well when calculating this.

“This team checks the proper boxes in terms of the necessary leadership abilities, the 60/40 gender parity in favour of women MECs, and the geographic distribution of the province,” the premier said.

Mabuyane stated his goals for the deliverables that must be made.

Draft Delivery Agreements that must be signed before the end of this month have been issued to them in this respect.

“The mission is that urgent. They have my clear expectation that they will always be among the communities and stakeholders we serve. We do not work in offices with air conditioning.

We are here to help the general public. We need to be aware of the circumstances where our people live on the ground, he added.

The provincial government’s collaborative effort to combat unemployment, poverty, and inequality has the backing of the new MECs, the Premier encouraged heads of departments, government officials, and all stakeholders in the impacted departments.
