Dutch Grand Prix winner Max Verstappen wins fourth straight

Zandvoort — Max Verstappen won his fourth consecutive race at his home Dutch Grand Prix on Sunday, with Mercedes’ George Russell finishing second.

Charles Leclerc of Ferrari finished third, followed by Lewis Hamilton in the second Mercedes.

“I’m glad to be Dutch,” Verstappen remarked as he took another determined stride toward a second consecutive world championship.

“The race was not straightforward. It is amazing to win here again, and it is always wonderful to win your home race,” Verstappen said, as his “orange army” applauded him on.

After this 15th race of the 22-race season, the world champion, in the best form of his career, increased his lead in the drivers’ standings to 109 points.

Leclerc and his Red Bull colleague Sergio Perez, who finished fifth, are tied for the lead of the pursuing pack with 201 points.

Verstappen, who also earned a point for the quickest lap, can get closer to winning the Formula One championship in 2022 in Monza next weekend.

It was not all smooth sailing for the pole-starting home favorite, who had to maintain his composure to pass Hamilton during a dramatic late safety car restart.
