Dr. Mukesh Kwatra, Founder of ‘Smiling Tree’, Creates an Eco-friendly Garden for Delhi Police

Smiling Tree, directed by Dr. Mukesh Kwatra, pioneered the creation of an eco-friendly garden for Delhi Police at Roop Nagar Police Station in North Delhi, which was dedicated on June 5th, World Environment Day.

The lovely garden, with its plethora of trash material converted into lovely pots, not only soothes the soul, but also sends a message of Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and environmental stewardship.

Green inventors like Dr. Kwatra will find a plethora of repurposed garden ideas ready to be found. He has successfully contributed to the environment by creating an eco-friendly garden for the Delhi Police.

Beautiful plants have been added to used plastic bottles, old tyres, shoes, tin cans, and wine bottles. Waste vehicle tyres are utilized to make a well, complete with bottle planters hanging from the tyres and fern plants on a tray.

Dr. Mukesh Kwatra, an environmentalist, has taken great care to plant hundreds of air-purifying plants such as Areca palms, snake palms, money plants, spider plants, aloevera, and many others.

Dr. Kwatra’s NGO, Smiling Tree Foundation, has been conducting Plantation Drives in and around Delhi-NCR since 2012, planting over five and a half lakh seedlings so far.

They also hold environmental awareness activities such as anti-plastic drives, plogging events, green walks, and campaigns in educational institutions to encourage people to live in a more environmentally responsible manner.

The three Rs, reduce, reuse, and recycle, are emphasized. Reducing refers to lowering the amount of trash produced. Finding a new method to use objects so that we don’t have to toss them away is what reusing is all about.

Recycling is the process of repurposing discarded resources to create new products that may be reused. We are also lowering air and water pollution by conserving resources and sending less rubbish to landfills. These actions also contribute to the long-term sustainability of the ecosystem for future generations.

“This green endeavor is a very refreshing move for us,” SHO Roop Nagar Police Station said of Smiling Tree. During the construction of this garden, I could see my team’s passion grow. Being among plants is quite calming and provides a nice break from stress and weariness.

“Dr. Kwatra said, “Reusing old materials is a great way to do more with less, especially in a garden. Its turning trash into garden treasures.”
