SuperSport United of the DStv Premiership will face a motivated Dondol Stars FC on Wednesday evening at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in a Nedbank Cup round-of-32 match.
The Pretoria-based team competing in the Gauteng stream of the ABC Motsepe League will attempt to trigger an upset.
During this week’s match preview at the headquarters of the Premier Soccer League in Johannesburg, co-coach Khuliso Rashamuse informed their opponents that his team prefers to maintain position.
Rashumase stated, “Dondol Stars FC is a carpet football team; we like to maintain position and do not like to give it up.”
The coach of SuperSport United, Gavin Hunt, is wary of complacency and stated that his team will approach the game with the respect it merits.
Hunt stated, “You never really know with these types of games, but we have a general idea – I believe it is always important to know what you are up against.”
“However, we will give the game the respect it deserves, play properly, and field a highly competitive team; the rest will take care of itself.” I am confident that they will be ready for us, and we must match their intensity and play with the proper mentality and motivation.”
Hunt also discussed the transfer deadline acquisition of striker Zakhele Lepasa from Orlando Pirates, stating that the 26-year-old gives them something different.
“I believe that in every section of a football team, you need players who can play a position, but you also need players with different skill sets,” he stated.
“If you look at our strike force, you’ll notice that we have very similar types of strikers; thus, we needed something different; I’ve always thought that we needed something different, and he [Lepasa] brings us something different. That is essentially how the entire transaction came about.”
