Three dangerous inmates who escaped while being transported from Groblersdal to Witbank jail remain at large.
The prisoners escaped on January 25, at approximately 11:00 a.m., and police in Dennilton, Limpopo began searching the same day.
According to the South African Police Service (SAPS), Michael Masimula, Mahlatse Matebane, and Lovemore Moshui, aged between 20 and 40, appeared in Groblersdal Magistrate Court and were being transported to prison with three other prisoners when they escaped near Moutse Mall in the Dennilton policing area.
Rubber bullets are fired as convicts and guards scuffle in the Boksburg prison.
The spokesperson for the Limpopo police, Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo, stated that the fugitives were charged with murder, rape, armed robberies, cash-in-transit heists, and illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.
The circumstances behind their escape, according to Mojapelo, are still being probed.

Additionally, prison officials are praised for thwarting an escape attempt by two inmates.
Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, Police Commissioner of Limpopo, has ordered that the detainees be tracked down and returned to where they belong.
The public has been warned not to approach the suspects, but to contact the police instead.
