Diego Costa joins Wolves for free

Diego Costa, a striker who used to play for Chelsea and Atletico Madrid, signed a deal with Wolves on Monday for the whole season.

Since leaving Atletico Mineiro in Brazil in January, the 33-year-old has been without a club.

After adding a new player, Wolves needed more ways to attack. Sasa Kalajdzic hurt his cruciate knee ligament in his first game, which was last weekend against Southampton.

Wolves chairman Jeff Shi said, “We couldn’t be happier to have Diego Costa join Wolves and return to the Premier League.

“Diego is a winner who has played at the highest level for a long time. He will bring something unique to our locker room and to the field, and we’re excited to see what he does at Molineux.”

Wolves have only scored three goals in their first six Premier League games. They have six points and are 14th in the table.

When Costa was in England before, he played for Chelsea and scored 59 goals in 120 games. He helped the Blues win two Premier League titles.

But he has had a number of bad tempers on the field, and since he left London in 2017, he hasn’t been able to reach the heights of his time at Chelsea and his first time at Atletico.

After two and a half years back in Madrid, Costa went back to Brazil in August 2021 to play for Atletico Mineiro. He had trouble making an impact, though, and his contract was ended in January.
