Deputy Human Settlements Minister Pamela Tshwete says government-subsidized homes cannot be sold

Title papers are not a licence to sell government-subsidized homes, according to Pamela Tshwete, deputy minister of human settlements.

“A title deed is documentation of an asset’s ownership that must be passed down to next generations.

We strongly advise against home sales after acquiring title documents.

This is a harmful habit that we must urgently address as a group, including the renting out of homes, Tshwete remarked.

Tshwete was speaking at Obed Mthombeni Nkosi in the Gauteng province during the distribution of title documents to beneficiaries.

The community was informed by the Deputy Minister and Lebogang Maile, MEC for Human Settlements in Gauteng, that obtaining title papers did not obligate them to sell their homes.

They cautioned that the Breaking New Ground (BNG/RDP), also known as selling and renting fully subsidised government homes, has presented difficulties for the government as well as for recipients, who often return to being impoverished.

“A qualified recipient is only eligible to receive one government home.

Double dipping may be recognised by and prevented by our method.

“Unfortunately, there are moments when we are seen by the public as a government that does not care about the lives of people who are in need.

After selling their homes, this causes individuals to become homeless and poor once again, according to Tshwete.

According to Maile, the administration is dedicated to addressing all of the issues made about difficulties with the distribution of newly constructed homes.

“Where there have been issues, the government has responded and will continue to act.

Our drive to provide title documents to housing recipients is becoming stronger.

The intention is to deliver these dwellings together with a title document on the same day, according to Maile.

Nearly 500 title documents were personally delivered by the Deputy Minister and MEC, while department representatives later in the day delivered the remaining 700 title deeds to the recipients.

The Obed Mthombeni Nkosi event was a component of a community engagement programme leading up to the Presidential Imbizo, which will occur on Friday, August 12, 2022, in the Sedibeng District Municipality of Gauteng.

The District Development Model (DDM) is being implemented as part of the imbizo in order to analyse service performance and allow responsive, integrated planning, implementation, and budgeting across all facets of government.

According to Maile, during the 2022–2023 fiscal year, the Gauteng Human Settlements Department aims to distribute 11,000 title documents.

According to him, beneficiaries in the province received close to 9000 title documents during the previous fiscal year.

Mmamoloko Kubayi, the minister of human settlements, and Maile will deliver freshly constructed homes and title papers to Impumelelo township’s predominantly female residents on Thursday.
