Dense fog Met Office warns of possible flight cancellations

This morning, as a thick layer of fog blankets most of the nation and temperatures drop to as low as 1C due to frost and eastern winds, Britain has been warned of “difficult driving conditions” and potential flight cancellations.

Due to the mist, the Met Office has issued a yellow warning for a significant portion of England, including Bath, Cardiff, portions of outer west London, Birmingham, Nottingham, and Hull.

Expect “slower travel times with delays to us and rail services likely,” the weather agency warned commuters.

Flight delays or cancellations are a possibility, it was stated.

Early this morning, portions of eastern Wales, the east Midlands, and the Vale of York were added to the yellow fog warning.

“We do have this big region of low cloud, mist, and fog patches in central and southern areas of the UK,” said meteorologist Aidan McGivern.

Contrary to Thursday, a stronger easterly wind that develops during the day will lift it, resulting in a brighter afternoon that will still have a lot of cloud cover.

“Eastern areas of England as well as eastern Scotland will increasingly see showers coming in on that easterly air.”

As a result of the thick fog that has kept temperatures low in the south and west, Barnstaple’s temperature plummeted to 1°C this morning, while Wrexham, Salisbury, and London recorded 2°C, 3°C, and 5°C, respectively.

This afternoon, temperatures will rise, reaching highs of 5 to 8 C across the capital and central England.

The south-west corner of the nation and Stromness, at the extreme point of Scotland, will both see highs of 10C today. These regions, however, are least impacted by the fog.
