Dead neighbor’s stench drives woman out

A Queensland lady who had to leave her apartment due to a “ghastly” odor was horrified to learn the source of the scent was her dead neighbor.

The guy, who was thought to be in his 70s and of German ancestry, had been abandoned for two weeks in his apartment building in the Manunda neighborhood of Cairns.

His next-door neighbor Margaret said that the odor was so bad that she was forced to keep her windows completely closed at all times and was no longer able to sit on her balcony.

She said to the Cairns Post, “I actually joked with a fellow here that it smelled like someone had died.” It smelled sweet and nauseating.

I’ve never encountered an odor like that; it seems to linger on your nose.

Before the lady observed “millions” of flies migrating to an upstairs window and notified the police, the body had been inside the apartment for two weeks.

On October 3, officers discovered the corpse in the Cairns facility.

According to a Queensland Police spokesman, the death was not being investigated as suspicious and a report was being prepared for the coroner.

Margaret has relocated to a friend’s house because she was concerned that the apartment’s high fly population posed a threat to public health.

She has asked for help from the Residential Tenancies, Queensland Health, her local municipality, and MP Michael Healy.

Despite the body corporate’s assurance that the apartment would be completely cleaned 48 hours after the death was discovered, Margaret said that it “still stinks.”

According to a Body Corporate Services spokesman, the deceased’s next of kin would typically be responsible for cleaning the apartment.

The individual, it is believed, has no close relatives.

In order to finish the thorough clean as soon as possible, “Body Corporate Services have been working in concert with the property management and body corporate committee,” she stated.

We have been informed that this professional clean will be finished in the next 48 hours.
