Daisy Goodwin lodged a formal complaint, publicly alleging that Korski sexually assaulted her during a meeting at Downing Street a decade ago.

Despite denying the accusation as “baseless,” Korski had faced mounting pressure to step down from the race due to dwindling support.

The pressure intensified when Goodwin revealed on BBC Radio 4’s Today programme that other women had come forward with additional stories, which she couldn’t discuss due to legal reasons. Goodwin expressed her confidence in having written the piece and naming Korski.

In an official statement released on Wednesday afternoon, Korski announced his decision to withdraw from the Conservative mayoral contest.

He categorically denied the allegations against him, highlighting that no formal accusations were presented to him ten years ago or seven years ago when the matter was alluded to.

Korski expressed his willingness to participate in any investigation and emphasized the strain the false and unproven allegation had placed on his family.

He stated that the inability to receive a fair hearing for his message of “The London Dream” and the distraction caused by the news agenda made it impossible for his campaign to continue.

Korski expressed pride in running a positive campaign that championed new ideas, technology, and talent, while also highlighting his years of campaigning for the Conservative Party and his commitment to improving the lives of Londoners.

He believed that Londoners deserved an uplifting and positive vision for their city and had strived to offer just that.

However, Korski recognized that the news coverage surrounding the accusation was diverting attention from the mayoral race and the Conservative Party as a whole.

Despite his withdrawal, Korski pledged to support the Conservative Party and its eventual candidate.

He extended gratitude to his family, friends, and supporters for their unwavering backing throughout his campaign.

This development leaves the remaining contestants in the Conservative Party’s mayoral race to vie against Sadiq Khan, the incumbent Mayor of London, and offer the transformative change that the city desperately needs.
