Damar Hamlin, a safety for the Buffalo Bills, is in critical condition after falling on the field during Monday night’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals, according to the Bills.
Overnight, the organization released an update stating, “Damar Hamlin experienced a heart arrest during our game against the Bengals as a result of a hit. His heartbeat was recovered on the field, and he was taken to the UC Medical Center for additional testing and treatment. Currently, he is sedated and in critical condition.”

The remainder of the game was postponed following the injury. The NFL has not specified when the remainder of the game will be played.
The Bengals receiver Tee Higgins was tackled by the 24-year-old Hamlin in the final seconds of the first quarter. Hamlin “made a hit, got up, went a few steps, and then just dropped to the ground,” a correspondent for ESPN, which was broadcasting the game, said.

The commentators stated that medical workers treated Hamlin on the field for around 10 minutes, including what seemed to be CPR, before an ambulance was brought onto the field. Hamlin appeared to be receiving oxygen as he was being placed into the ambulance.
“On the field, team and independent medical personnel, as well as local paramedics, provided Hamlin with rapid medical care. He was subsequently brought to a nearby hospital where his condition is serious “The NFL stated in a press release. “We are thinking of Damar and the Buffalo Bills. We will provide additional details as they become available.”
ESPN announcers stated that Hamlin’s mother attended the game and rode in the ambulance with him.

Several players from both sides appeared distressed as they surrounded Hamlin as he was being treated.
“The entire Bills team is out on the field right now,” remarked an ESPN journalist as they waited for news on Hamlin’s status. “Several players are on their knees while others hold hands and pray. You can just see the anxious glances on their faces.”
The game was first “temporarily suspended” after Hamlin was removed from the field, and the participants returned to their respective locker rooms.
The decision to officially postpone the game for the evening was made shortly before 10 p.m. ET, roughly an hour after Hamlin’s fall.

At the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, where Hamlin was transported, fans of both teams, some holding candles, were seen assembled.
Multiple teams offered best wishes to Hamlin and the Bills, who were playing at Paycor Stadium in Cincinnati.

Kathy Hochul, the governor of New York, posted on Twitter that she was “praying” for Hamlin and that “our hearts are with his family, loved ones, and the whole @BuffaloBills community.”
According to his team biography, Hamlin was picked by the Bills in 2021 after playing 46 games at the University of Pittsburgh, where he received a bachelor’s degree in communications. He also operates The Chasing M’s Foundation, a charitable organization.
The toy drive for which he solicited funds on GoFundMe received a flood of donations after the incident on Monday night. At 2:30 a.m. EST, the fund had received more than $3 million in contributions. Its original objective was $2,500.
