Daddy deadbeat? Mngqithi responds

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Manqoba Mngqithi has explained his side of the story after his daughter, Isibaya actress Asavela Mqokiyana, accused him of being an absent, “deadbeat” parent.

Manqoba told Daily Sun that he is not one to flaunt his dirty linen publicly, but feels forced to clear his name after his daughter from a previous relationship tweeted on Friday that her success had nothing to do with the Sundowns coach:

“Never attribute all my accomplishments to Manqoba Mngqithi and his wealth, no matter what I’ve accomplished or what I’ll accomplish in the future. Ngihluphekile, ngaphumelela engekho (I suffered financially until I made it without his support). If you have an opinion or insight, please share it (if you have a problem with that, just eat it). I suppose that love and light will prevail.”

Manqoba stated that Asavela’s mother became pregnant just as he was about to begin working, thus he was present from the moment she was born.

“From day one, I took care of Asavela and compensated her family for damages, which is why she adopted my surname…

At the age of 14, she resided with me. I paid for her education from elementary school to college,” Manqoba told the publication.

Asavela, however, refuted her father’s assertions and stated that she did not complete her degree because Manqoba failed to pay her tuition costs.

“I was unable to complete my degree at AFDA because I owing tuition, which I notified him of, but he refused to pay.”

FATHER TELLS ACTRESS TO FOCUS ON HER MARRIAGE

The head coach of Mamelodi Sundowns further stated that the former Isibaya actress should prioritize her marriage to Vuyisa Mqokiyana. According to Manqoba, he has never met Asavela’s husband due to their ongoing dispute.

Since she began working, she has been battling with me. Due to this tension, I do not know her husband, nor do I know who stole her lobola.

BREAKDOWN IN COMMUNICATION

Asavela maintains that she has not communicated with Manqoba in the past fifteen years. However, her father stated that he is concerned about his daughter’s behavior and has attempted to safeguard her.

As Ntwenhle in the now-cancelled Mzansi Magic soap Isibaya, Asavela has established herself as a notable actress. She is sure, though, that her father had nothing to do with her achievement.

According to her, she is finally stepping out because Manqoba has been discussing how proud he is of his daughter in interviews.

ASAVELA DISRESPECTING MANQOBA?

People on Twitter have defended Manqoba, arguing that Asavela should have addressed her father with a modicum of deference. Consider a few of the responses:

Yes, Manqoba Mnqithi may not have been Asavela’s present father, as she implied.

As a result, Asavela must not repeat her disrespectful behavior toward her father on a public forum. pic.twitter.com/cnMZOFTnzO

Writing a person’s name in all lowercase letters is improper and rude, regardless of who does it. Manqoba Mngqithi cannot be disrespected by Asavela in response to tweets that she dislikes. https://t.co/soZuiRRBGH
