Covid-19 gains more prominence in the UK

Infections with Covid-19 have increased in the United Kingdom for the first time in two months.

The Omicron variety, like in the preceding wave, is assumed to be responsible for the jump.

According to the Office for National Statistics, it currently includes the original Omicron variation BA.1 as well as recent variants BA.4 and BA.5 (ONS).

Last week, the virus was believed to have infected 989,800 persons in private houses, up from 953,900 the week before.

Infections have increased in all four countries, however the ONS classifies the trend in Scotland and Wales as ‘uncertain.’
