Courts and tribunals organised Her Majesty’s State Funeral and condolence books

Courts and tribunals plan for the State Funeral Day after Her Majesty The Queen’s passing, as well as access to condolence books.

Following the revelation that Her Majesty The Queen’s State Funeral would be held on this day, which will be a national holiday, most hearings won’t take place on Monday, September 19, 2022.

However, as previously agreed, urgent hearings will proceed in collaboration with the court, including those for overnight detention cases. We’ll try to include these sorts of hearings on either side of the burial, if at all feasible and after consulting the appropriate judges.

Defendants who have been ordered to appear in court on the day of the funeral will have their cases continued to the next available day.

All parties will be notified of their revised hearing date and location through contact with us. As a sign of respect, the public will be prohibited from entering any of our locations, including the Royal Courts of Justice, Crown Courts, County Courts, Civil and Family Courts, Magistrate Courts, Tribunals, Business Centers, and Service Centers.

The online condolence book service provided by the Royal Family is available to all users of courts and tribunals.
