CNN political analyst Kasie Hunt gave birth to a healthy baby girl after an unexpected 13-minute labor in the bathroom of her Washington, DC home.
Hunt and her husband Matthew Mario Rivera were expecting their second child to arrive via a scheduled C-section the following day. Instead, their daughter Grey Hunt Rivera made her debut ahead of schedule. Proud big brother Mars Hunt, 3½, is excited about his new baby sister.
Grey Hunt Rivera weighed in at 8 pounds, 4 ounces, and the couple credits her with already showing an independent streak. Kasie and Matthew said they are grateful to the 911 operators and the DC Fire & EMS team who talked them through the intense moments and brought them safely to Sibley Hospital in Washington. They added that it is a day they will never forget and are excited about life as a family of four.
Kasie Hunt’s second daughter’s birth is a joyous occasion following some trying times. In October 2021, Hunt revealed that she underwent a four-hour operation to remove a benign tumor from her brain.
The tumor was discovered in August 2021, just around the time she started her new role at CNN. Hunt was hired by then-CNN boss Jeff Zucker to be part of CNN+’s star-studded lineup but the streaming service was axed just weeks into its inception following a cost-cutting spree by the new management.
Hunt, a former star reporter at the Associated Press and NBC News, joined CNN in 2021 as a political analyst. She frequently appears alongside Jake Tapper during his “The Lead” broadcast. Hunt met her husband while working out of NBC News’ Washington, DC bureau. Matthew is an adjunct professor at New York University in addition to being a journalist and producer.
