CHIETA fostering future entrepreneurs

Aul Masilo is one of the recipients of the inaugural Entrepreneurship Development Programme (EDP) of the Chemical Industries Education & Training Authority (CHIETA), which is a partnership with the University of Johannesburg’s Business School and the non-profit chemical incubator Chemin.

He graduated with the inaugural class of CHIETA’s Entrepreneurship EDP this year.

This project represents an R2 million investment in the program and is consistent with CHIETA’s long-term goal of funding 2,000 young entrepreneurs by 2025.

Masilo praised CHIETA for the crucial role it played in the success of his mouthwash business.

According to him, the program played a significant part in equipping them with the skills and training necessary to operate an effective firm.

“Had it not been for the collaboration between CHIETA and Chemin, I would not have reached this point. You may have a fantastic product, but you also require training in numerous aspects of business administration and management. “CHIETA’s training is crucial to the success of our company,” he says.

The 1998 Skills Development Act (Act No. 97) established CHIETA as a statutory body.

Tyre Nichols, the victim of a police beating, will be laid to rest in Memphis.

As a Sector Education and Training Authority (SETA), its mission is to assist skills development in the chemical industries sector and guarantee that skills needs are identified and met through a variety of SETA and sector-wide programs.

CHIETA WORKING WITH SMALL BISINESSES
CHIETA’s chief executive officer, Yershen Pillay, asserts that the SETA offers small enterprises solutions to the unique issues they face in the context of their overall development.

Pillay stated at the outset of the EDP that Chemin performed surveys with the program’s recipients to determine the necessary skills, which are subsequently developed and strengthened.

“Our goal is to create sustainable, stable businesses that are competitive, innovative, and equipped to comply with national and international regulations,” he explains.

He adds that our cooperation with the Business School Centre for Entrepreneurship at the University of Johannesburg, Chemin, and other stakeholders is synergistic and ensures that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.

Pillay explains, “Through the EDP, we are combining our respective niche expertise with the development and support of Small, Micro, and Medium Enterprises (SMMEs) through mentorship, business development training, and technical quality assurance services, which has the potential to ensure the sustainability, scalability, and profitability of the candidate SMMEs.”
