Chiefs will next form a women’s team

Kaizer Chiefs women’s team is currently being planned, according to Kaizer Motaung.

Following Banyana Banyana’s victory in the WAFCON, focus is now on the prospects for women’s soccer in the PSL.

Chiefs are creating and launching their own women’s team, according to Amakhosi chairman Motaung.

“[Creating a women’s team] is something we are looking into… We do not know [about] timelines, but we must prioritise what needs to be done first, such as assembling a team with this player and that one, and also develop ideas for how to enter the women’s football market, according to Motaung on SABC Sport.

The only team with a professionally developed professional women’s side is Mamelodi Sundowns.

Female teams have just lately been formed by TS Galaxy and Royal AM.

Given Banyana’s victory in WAFCON, this comes as a great shock.

As a result of their victory, they were named the CAF National Team of the Year.

Imagine the potential of this side once we have established depth and multiple elite women’s sides in SA.

They already possess the talent to compete with some of the top teams in the world, according to Motaung.

“It means a lot because it means our game in the country will also have to take off so that we introduce ladies professional football in the country in a proper way,” said Dr. Motaung.

“If we can compete against England, USA, Finland, or whatever, it means our game in the country will also have to take off.”

He undoubtedly has a point; this marks the start of a major transformation in Mzansi football.

All teams must have a women’s squad in order to compete in the CAF Champions League or CAF Confederation Cup, according to a recent judgement by Patrice Motsepe.

Meaning that the female teams for Orlando Pirates, AmaZulu, SuperSport United, Cape Town City, and Stellenbosch will need to be formed soon.

Additionally, any teams who desire to compete in the CAF.
