This is the incredible image created by an amateur photographer who took a sunset photo and captured the light in the shape of an angel.

As the sun set over the coastline near his home in Portsoy, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, Stuart Murray, 56, took out his smartphone to take a photo.
The reflection of light stretches across the expanse of water as he waits for the sun to melt further into the North Sea.

The yellow glow of the stripe of light reflects in semi-circles to the left and right of where the sun is setting.

Mr Murray snapped a few photos on his phone around 9.45 p.m., just as the light reflections appeared to show an angel shape across the sky and sea.

The images that result show it dipping and transforming into an angelic figure with outstretched wings.

Stuart explained that he’d been looking for a good sunset shot for a long time.

‘I’d wanted to get a shot of the sun setting for years, but work or weather always got in the way,’ said the 56-year-old.

‘However, the location where I took the photograph is only a ten-minute walk from my home in Portsoy, where I have spent my entire life.’

‘This is a photograph of the sun setting over Northern Scotland, along the coast of the Moray Firth.’ I took it at 21.45 on June 1st.

‘My thoughts on the “Angel”: well, I’m not religious but I think I know what would spring to most people’s minds if they saw the picture.

‘If that gives one or two people a bit of comfort, so be it. I was only really looking for the classic picture of a sun setting.

‘As for the effect the sun is giving off, I think, in my very limited use of my camera on my smartphone, it had something to do with the very clear and quiet still conditions that night.

‘I remember whilst taking the photo a tourist couple walked by and I said to them that I wasn’t much of a photographer and that’s still true.’
