CCTV video shows the assailant who “left for dead” a Sikh leader in Manchester

In an effort to identify the perpetrator of the assault on the Sikh leader in Manchester who was “left for dead” on the street, police have released CCTV video.

On June 23, a guy believed to have been angry after running into his girlfriend beat the 62-year-old victim in the head as he was in the middle of Manchester’s Northern Quarter.

On his way home, the grandpa is said to have unintentionally touched a young woman’s arm. She then followed him down the street with her companion.

The males are seen talking to each other on Hilton Street in a CCTV recording. The victim flees but is chased down Tib Street where he is twice struck in the head before collapsing on the ground.

After that, his assailant departs, leaving him laying on the road next to a restaurant.

The victim had a severe brain damage and has been mute ever since. His life has been “tragically transformed,” according to his relatives.

The 62-year-old Sikh priest’s life was tragically changed forever on June 23, 2022, when a thug shamefully perpetrated this horrific deed, leaving him in a pool of blood with catastrophic irreversible life-changing brain damage and walking away as if it were normal behaviour, they said in a statement.

A dedicated husband and father who has spent 37 years living, working, and supporting a community in a place he loves is suddenly unable to even leave the hospital.

He put in a lot of effort every day to raise a teacher, a pharmacist, and a future doctor while also making sure we were taught to inspire and serve future generations.

A Sikh priest was abandoned for dead on the busy streets of Manchester, the same path he used every day to go home, while onlookers looked on.

He was brutally and mercilessly assaulted, and the nasty, despicable people who did it are still around.

We hear about terrible things in the news, but we never think it would happen to one of your own—a guy who never spoke a single nasty or disparaging remark and who inspired people around him to show compassion.

“We have lost the life of the party, the light in the midst of any sadness in our lives, and the laughter and pleasure he brought home every day, has vanished and left our hearts empty,” the letter reads.

Sadly, the guy who went for work that day and decided to walk home to take advantage of the pleasant weather will never come back.

“It has been more than two months since the event, and we are still no closer to discovering the culprit and holding them to account for their deeds,” the statement reads.

“We urge to anybody who knows anything or knows the criminal to come forward.” With life-altering injuries, our husband/father is confined to a hospital bed and unsure of what the future may bring.

Please, please take action right now to prevent this from happening to someone else and severing another family. We wouldn’t want this suffering on anybody else.

The attacker’s video was made public by Greater Manchester Police, along with CCTV photos of a man and a woman they want to talk to about the incident.

“We are anxious to identify the man and lady depicted in the attached pictures, as we think they may be able to help us with our inquiry,” said Detective Inspector Mark Astbury of Longsight CID.

“We decided to share the CCTV video with the family’s consent just to demonstrate the severity and callousness of this assault and why we need to make sure the criminal is discovered and suffers the repercussions of his abhorrent conduct,” the statement reads.

The investigation no longer includes a 38-year-old man who was detained in July on suspicion of severe assault in connection with the incident.

If you have any information or believe you recognise the guy or lady in the pictures, call the police at (618) 856-6049 or report it online at (www.gmp.police.uk).

You might also call Crimestoppers anonymously at 0800 555 111.
