Cathay Pacific will reconnect Johannesburg with Hong Kong

In the near future, South Africans will once again be able to fly Cathay Pacific, since the airline just announced that it will return to South African skies.

This follows the removal of all flights from South Africa by the Hong Kong flag carrier during the COVID-19 peak season in November 2020. Now, more than two years later in August 2023, Cathay Pacific is prepared to resume operations.

The Hong Kong-Johannesburg route has always been popular with South Africans, not only because of the ease of having direct access to Hong Kong, but also because of its links throughout Cathay Pacific’s Asian network, which includes Mainland China, Indonesia, Thailand, and more.

Beginning on 2 August 2023, the airline will operate three weekly nonstop flights between South Africa and Hong Kong, as follows:

CX748 will depart Johannesburg at 11:20 on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, arriving in Hong Kong at 6:00 the following morning.
On Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, CX749 departs Hong Kong at 00:40 and arrives in Johannesburg at 07:35.
According to Travel News, flights will be aboard an Airbus A350-900 with 280 seats in three cabin classes: 38 in business class, 28 in premium economy, and 214 in economy class.

According to the airline, each cabin class on the A350-900 offers passengers a completely new experience, with extra-wide cabins featuring brand-new seats, a state-of-the-art in-flight entertainment system and in-flight connectivity, as well as additional comfort, convenience, and entertainment features.
