Neil and Rachel Robjohn, who have been serving the Penylan community for 23 years, have closed their Waterloo Gardens corner shop in Cardiff.

Neil and Rachel decided to become their own bosses in November 2000 after Neil’s friend encouraged him to become a shopkeeper.

The couple have worked together for the past 12 years, serving customers with good customer service and fairness.

However, after more than two decades of working in the shop, the couple are looking forward to some rest and relaxation.

They will take a holiday with their family and not worry about the shop while they are away.

Neil had been a driver for a car rental company before taking over the Waterloo Gardens store.

Rachel, who was an engineer and physics technician at Whitchurch High School, swapped her job to work on the shop floor.

However, the couple will be missed by their customers.

They have built a good rapport with their customers and have made friends for life.

The news of the couple’s departure has caused sadness among the locals.

A GoFundMe page has been set up, and the community has donated almost £1,500 in just five days to say thank you to the couple.

Lottie Stokes, who organised the fundraiser, suggested the money could be used for a meal or a family day out.

Neil and Rachel have always supported the community and helped a lot during the pandemic, according to Lottie.

They serve customers with essential goods and services and provide employment opportunities for local people.

However, owning and running a small business can be challenging and stressful, and it takes a lot of hard work and dedication to keep it going.

Neil and Rachel have worked tirelessly for more than two decades to serve their customers with good customer service and fairness.

Their departure will be a significant loss to the Penylan community.

The community’s gesture of goodwill and support towards the couple is heartening and shows the appreciation they have for the service they have provided.

It is hoped that new business owners will take over the shop and continue to serve the community with the same dedication and commitment.
