A California lady was’shocked’ when homicide police claimed to have matched her 23andMe DNA test to a cold case murder from 1986.
Palm Springs resident Jacquleine ‘Jackie’ Vadurro found herself ‘living in my own Dateline story’ when San Diego cold case homicide police informed her that her DNA may match that of a lady who was brutally murdered in 1986.
Vadurro stated on January 20 on TikTok, “Oh my God, guys, I’ve had the craziest 48 hours of my entire life.” 48 hours ago, I was sitting at lunch, eating a salad, minding my own business, when my phone rang with no caller ID. I thought, “That’s weird,” but I answered it anyway.
On the other end of the phone, the detective informed her that her DNA “could be a possible match” for the woman who had been fatally shot in the chest and thrown off a rural San Diego road.
The woman was not listed as missing.
The detectives informed her that she was “ground zero” in the case since her DNA was the closest match to that of Jane Doe.
“I was absolutely stunned,” Vadurro told the New York Post.

Through the DNA of Jane Doe and her mother, San Diego detectives were able to determine that she was linked to Vadurro on her mother’s side.
“Now they believe that I may be a member of her family based on the DNA that I uploaded to 23andMe,” Vaduro said in a TikTok. ‘ At first, I believed it was a hoax, and I thought, “Oh my God, they’re going to like clone me, ya know, who wouldn’t want another one of me.” However, upon more investigation, they sent me their credentials and I contacted the homicide department.
They were genuine. It was a legitimate occurrence.
Police departments do not have access to 23andMe data, but a long-lost cousin whose DNA was already in the GED Match system matched Vadurro to him. Vadurro was had to upload her 23andMe results in order for them to potentially match her to the case.
The detectives informed her that she was “ground zero” in the case since her DNA was the closest match to that of Jane Doe. “I was absolutely stunned,” Vadurro remarked.
Detectives discovered that Vadurro was a near-perfect match, being both Italian and Mexican and having ties to Jalisco, Mexico, on her mother’s side, where the victim was discovered.
After Vadurro’s mother submitted her own DNA sample to authorities and informed her daughter that the victim was her second or third cousin, detectives determined that the victim was related to Vadurro’s mother.

Vadurro was eating a salad in late January when she received a call from detectives informing her that she may be a match for the victim. As they are still compiling her mother’s family tree, detectives have not yet been able to identify the victim or the murderer.

Vadurro told DailyMail.com on Friday that there has been “no real progress” and that authorities have not yet identified the victim because they are “still combing through my family tree.”
However, they believe the victim is related to the great-grandfather of Vadurro’s mother.
According to Vadurro, the top match to the victim resides in New York, and he intends to purchase a tombstone for her once she is recognized.
She added that investigators do not believe the victim was a “hooker or prostitute” because she was found in 1986 “dressed really nicely” in a skirt and sandals. The victim was also described as having brown eyes and long brown hair, and as being “very, very beautiful.” She was likewise between 25 and 30 years old.
