The Recording Academy, organizers of the Grammy Awards, have asserted that Nigerian singer Damini Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, stands as the unrivaled star in the realm of Afrobeats and African music.

Naija News reported Burna Boy’s nomination for ‘City Boys’ in the inaugural Best African Music Performance category at the 66th Grammys.
The competition includes tracks like Davido and Musa Keys’ ‘Unavailable,’ Ayra Starr’s ‘Rush,’ Asake and Olamide’s ‘Amapiano,’ and Tyla’s ‘Water.’
Burna Boy’s Multi-Category Recognition
Burna Boy has notched up nominations in three additional categories at the Grammys. These include ‘Sitting On Top of the World’ featuring 21 Savage for Best Melodic Rap, ‘I Told Them’ for Best Global Music Album, and ‘Alone’ for Best Global Music Performance.
Recording Academy’s Congratulations and Recognition
In a statement on its website, the Recording Academy congratulated Burna Boy and all nominees in the newly established Best African Music Performance category.
The Academy praised Burna Boy’s imperial era, citing collaborations with global stars like Ed Sheeran and Justin Bieber. They highlighted his achievements, including earning the first UK No. 1 album with ‘I Told Them…’ featuring appearances from 21 Savage, J. Cole, RZA, and GZA.

The Recording Academy emphasized Burna Boy’s global influence, stating, “There’s not a bigger star in Afrobeats, or even the whole of Africa itself, than Burna Boy.”
The artist secured consecutive Best Global Album Grammy nods for ‘Twice as Tall’ and ‘African Giant’ and collaborated with renowned international artists.
