British Acting High Commissioner, Andrew Dalgleish, visits Usman Wazeer Boxing Academy o meet athletes and coaches ahead of the opening of the UK’s Birmingham Commonwealth Games

A 102-person delegation from Pakistan has travelled to Birmingham to compete in 12 different sports.

With 25 athletes registered to compete, Pakistan will have the largest female delegation at these Games ever.

In addition, women’s cricket will be featured at the Birmingham Games for the first time ever.

The Acting High Commissioner received boxing advice from the professional sportsmen, including Usman Wazeer, the first Pakistani to win the Asian Boxing Federation Welterweight title, while being accompanied by Ismat Ullah Mahr, the Academy’s Head Coach.

He also spoke with female competitors who aspire to one day be the faces of the Commonwealth Games.

The Acting High Commissioner said that Birmingham is home to a dynamic and strong British-Pakistani community, underscoring the importance of strong people-to-people ties in the UK and Pakistan relationship.
