On September 19, 2022, Britain and the world said goodbye to Queen Elizabeth II in a historic state burial held at Westminster Abbey in London. The procession of her coffin through hundreds of thousands of mourners to her last burial place at Windsor Castle followed the ceremony.
The nation’s longest-reigning monarch died on Thursday, September 8, at Balmoral Castle, Scotland, at the age of 96, following 70 years on the throne.
According to Sky News, the Queen’s casket departed Westminster Hall on Monday morning, where the last members of the public had waited overnight to see the queen lie in state. The coffin was transported to Westminster Abbey atop a gun carriage in a procession that included the monarch’s children.
After the grandeur and splendour of her state burial, the Royal Family honoured a “life of service, love, and faith” in a private ceremony at St. George’s Chapel, located on the grounds of her beloved Windsor Castle.
The Queen was interred beside her husband, Prince Philip, who died on April 9, 2021.
