Matthew Booth, a soccer analyst for SuperSport, and his wife Sonia Booth have slept in separate bedrooms for the past five years, after the former model secured a protection order against him following an episode of domestic violence.
Sonia obtained a protective order against the former Bafana Bafana defender as a result of the incident.
Later, Sonia asked Matthew to return to their bedroom, but he declined. Since the tragedy, the couple has been living apart, but they have agreed to move in together for the sake of their two children.
Last week, Matthew’s claimed mistress Bongani Mthombeni-Moller filed with the Johannesburg High Court an urgent application for a court order containing explosive information. Mthombeni-Moller sought a court order for Sonia to apologize, recant, and delete social media posts accusing her of having an affair with Matthew.
The court dismissed the application with costs because it lacked urgency.
Mthombeni-Moller stated in the application that Matthew and Sonia’s marriage was characterized by estrangement and abuse.
In a book titled “Two Years of Bliss and Eighteen Years of Batter,” Sonia recounted the abuse she endured at the hands of Matthew, according to the source.
Mthombeni-Moller noted in the affidavit, “In December 2021, the respondent published a book titled “Two years of happiness and eighteen years of batter.”
She stated that the book’s title was provocative and indicative of the nature and duration of their relationship.
“At the time of publication, the couple had been together for around 20 years. The book is a compilation of anecdotes from different women who, under pseudonyms, describe the many sorts of relationship abuse they have suffered. Due to the pseudonymous nature of the book, the public does not know which chapter was written by Sonia and details the breakdown of their relationship. According to Mthombeni-affidavit, Moller’s notwithstanding this, the respondent and Matthew remained married and agreed over five years ago to continue living together for the sake of their children.
Mthombeni-Moller also claimed that Sonia acquired a restraining order against the retired footballer, causing the couple to sleep in separate bedrooms. In the affidavit, however, it is not specified where the protective order was obtained.
“Additionally, the respondent has sought and won remedies under the Domestic Violence Act against Matthew. Due to the tenuous nature of the protection order, he declined her request to return to the master bedroom shortly thereafter. This information was recently provided to me by Matthew,” her declaration states.
Booth confirmed Mthombeni-allegations Moller’s in the affidavit he produced in favor of her urgent motion for an urgent court order against his wife.
“All the facts included above are within my knowledge of resonance and are true and accurate. Matthew’s confirmatory affidavit states, “I have read the foundational affidavit of Bongani Mthombeni-Moller, and I confirm the same inasmuch as it pertains to me.”
