Former President Bill Clinton announced on Wednesday that he had tested positive for COVID-19, but that his symptoms were moderate, and he urged others to get vaccinated. It is the most recent health worry for the 76-year-old, who was hospitalized briefly last year and has undergone multiple surgeries since 2004.
Clinton posted on Twitter, “I’m doing well overall and keeping myself busy at home. I’m grateful to have been vaccinated and boosted, which has kept my case light, and I recommend everyone to do the same, especially as winter approaches.”
In October 2021, after spending five nights in a California hospital for a blood infection, Clinton walked out arm-in-arm with his wife, former secretary of state Hillary Clinton.
In 2004, at the age of 58, he underwent a quadruple bypass operation due to significant cardiac disease.
Six years later, coronary stents were put in his artery.
This drove him to adopt a vegetarian diet and explain to the public how the shift in his diet improved his health.
Clinton told ABC News in 2004 after his successful heart surgery, “Perhaps if I had… not consumed so many hamburgers and steaks, which I adore, and if I had, you know, slightly less stress in my life… perhaps things would have been different.”
Clinton served as president of the United States for two terms, from 1993 to 2001.
Since leaving the White House twenty years ago, he has devoted himself to several humanitarian and diplomatic initiatives.
In addition to receiving big speaking fees and attending conferences, he traveled the globe to visit disaster zones and raise donations for the battle against AIDS.
Clinton, who once referred to himself as “the comeback kid” during a Democratic Party primary contest in 1992, supported his wife’s unsuccessful 2016 presidential campaign against Donald Trump.
In recent years, his speed has gradually decreased, and he has traveled less.
Presently, the Clintons reside in Chappaqua, New York.
