Berlin Zoo closes over bird flu case

The Berlin Zoo closed on Friday after one of its aquatic birds tested positive for avian influenza, according to the facility.

A routine examination of a dead hamerkop, a medium-sized wading bird, revealed that it tested positive for the disease.

As a precaution, the zoo will stay closed for the time being, the zoo announced. Meanwhile, caretakers are separating and quarantining the remaining bird populations.

The major objective is to avoid the spread of avian influenza, according to Berlin’s climate ministry.

Other zoos in Germany, including those in Greifswald, Karlsruhe, Rostock, and Heidelberg, have lately been affected by avian influenza.
