The co-owners of Newcastle, Mehrdad Ghodoussi and Amanda Staveley, barely avoided harm before their team’s Premier League match against Liverpool on Wednesday.

After a motorcycle being piloted by two individuals wearing balaclavas was driven in the direction of people outside Anfield, Ghodoussi and Staveley were disturbed.

The motorcycle, which Merseyside Police suspect was engaged in a pursuit with an electronic bike near to the Liverpool stadium, came dangerously close to striking the married pair.

“We were in danger of being struck by the bike as it sped straight past us. It was a terrifying occurrence. Once we entered the stadium, Amanda calmed down after being somewhat frightened “explained Ghodoussi.

“Thankfully, it seems like there were no significant injuries. Although the bike almost crashed into the throng, it might have been much worse.”

The bike was brought to a halt by an officer outside the stadium, causing the rider and passenger to fall off. Merseyside Police said that two males had been detained as a result of the incident.

“A 30-year-old male who was riding the bike was detained on suspicion of S5 RTA (drug driving), inflicting severe harm through reckless driving, and suspected auto theft.

“The passenger, a 23-year-old guy, was detained on suspicion of possessing Class B narcotics with the intent to provide, suspected auto theft, and other driving infractions.

“The bike has been found, and the event is still under investigation.”

The two individuals have been freed awaiting further inquiries while still under investigation.

Newcastle lost 2-1 despite taking the lead because Liverpool’s Fabio Carvalho scored the game-winning goal with almost the very last kick.
