Manchester City’s Erling Haaland, Arsenal’s immaculate start, and Liverpool’s win against Newcastle

By Martyn Herman

Arsenal maintained their unblemished Premier League record with a fifth successive victory, but Manchester City’s new addition Erling Haaland stole the show with his second hat-trick in Wednesday’s 6-0 rout of Nottingham Forest.

The club’s all-time record signing Alexander Isak scored on his debut to give his team the lead at Anfield, but Fabio Carvalho scored in stoppage time to give Liverpool a 2-1 triumph.

Tottenham Hotspur stayed undefeated despite drawing 1-1 with West Ham United.

Haaland’s much anticipated arrival at Manchester City has resulted in a tremendous effect from the Norwegian.

After scoring three times in the second half of the weekend’s victory over Crystal Palace, Haaland scored three times in the opening 38 minutes of City’s rout of Forest.

That didn’t take long at all!

Since joining City from Borussia Dortmund, he has scored a league-record nine goals in five appearances.

“It was good to continue doing what we did in the second half against Palace, which was to play, play, play. So far, so good; I have no complaints “he added.

Haaland put City ahead in the 12th minute after receiving a feed from Phil Foden, and Foden assisted Haaland’s second goal.

Haaland finished up his hat trick with a stunning header.

The Argentine Julian Alvarez, another new addition for the defending champions, scored twice in the second half as City once again demonstrated their potent offense.

City has earned 13 points through five games and scored 19 goals, but Arsenal leads the way.

Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli scored for the Gunners in their 2-1 victory over Aston Villa at The Emirates, which was Mikel Arteta’s team’s fifth consecutive victory.

Jesus started the scoring in the 31st minute and Martinelli scored the game-winning goal in the 77th minute, three minutes after struggling Villa’s Douglas Luiz scored immediately from a corner kick to tie the game.

Arteta stated, “We are ecstatic because we are winning football matches as we should.” “We need to improve, and you could see that in the second half, but the way we played in the first half was incredibly encouraging for me as a coach.”

This would have been a ridiculous goal by Martinelli; what a save by Martinez

The 22-year-old had a second-half goal disallowed while Liverpool was on fire.

Roberto Firmino retaliated for Liverpool in the 61st minute by converting Mohamed Salah’s through ball.

Newcastle fought valiantly for a draw, but were left disheartened when Carvalho scored the game-winning goal in the eighth minute of stoppage time to propel Porto to fifth place in the league with eight points and Newcastle to 11th with six.

“Football can go in both directions, but tonight it went in the correct one, a fantastic finish,” said Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp, who criticized Newcastle for wasting time.

The Premier League welcomes Alexander Isak.

His opposing number Eddie Howe was less delighted.

“I am extremely proud of the players and their dedication, but this is quite sad,” he remarked.

Thilo Kehrer’s own-goal gave Tottenham the lead at West Ham, allowing them to tie with Manchester City on 13 points. Tottenham may have tied with Manchester City if not for Kehrer’s error.

However, Tomas Soucek’s equalizer in the 55th minute awarded West Ham a point that was merited.

Bournemouth, who fired manager Scott Parker last week following a 9-0 loss at Liverpool, regrouped with a scoreless draw against Wolverhampton Wanderers at home.
