This week, the Tyre Extinguishers, a group of climate change activists, celebrated the completion of their first “action” in New York City, which involved deflating the tires of 40 SUVs on Manhattan’s Upper East Side.
The campaign, which has its roots in the UK, aims to persuade people to abandon their SUV ownership in metropolitan areas in favor of more ecologically friendly transportation.
They left flyers on the SUVs’ windshields that said, “Attention: Your gas guzzler kills.”
They boasted about their acts on Twitter.

40 SUVs were disarmed in the Upper East Side, the first of many, they claimed.
“We have an American English leaflet (with the word “tire” instead of “tyre”) on our website so USA citizens can participate!”
Despite their investigation, police have not yet made any arrests.
They received an email from one victim with the subject “Damn you, Red Coats!”
In order to fix the damaged cars, the owner of the SUV indicated that “much more ecologically unfriendly” pickup trucks would now be called, and he also mentioned that most of the people attacked would be compensated by insurance.
Anyone is encouraged to join the loosely coordinated movement at their own discretion. Acting in the dark, teamwork, and initial practice on bicycle tires are all encouraged.

The organization issued a statement in which they expressed their desire for “huge investment in free, comprehensive public transport,” “bans on SUVs in metropolitan areas, pollution fees to tax SUVs out of existence.”
But Tyre Extinguishers action will continue until politicians make this a reality, they continued.
On social media, the measure was criticized as being ineffective.
One added, “People need to understand that their choices still have repercussions, even if they feel like they are morally just decisions.
Others believed the gang supported cutting and destroying the tires in order to produce additional rubbish.
As much as I disagree with your preference for taking public transportation or riding, I believe that hurting private property, adding to pollution by causing tire damage, and producing more waste are all very unproductive.
Try encouraging biking and public transportation instead than driving.
Another person chimed in: “So you punctured the tires on 40 cars to stop global warming etc. Additionally, 40 tow vehicles will now leave to repair or re-inflate these tires.
I’m not an expert on carbon footprints, but it appears you dramatically expanded it based on the size and fuel use of the tow vehicles.
