Mr. Gough initially came to public recognition after Theresa May’s farewell speech as Prime Minister in July 2019, garnering a large number of internet followers.

Before Boris Johnson addressed the nation in July to announce his resignation as Prime Minister, supporters of ‘Podium Guy’ urged him to fill the void: ‘I vote that we keep ‘Podium Guy’ on as interim and let Boris leave today,’ one Twitter user said.

In July, Mr. Gough was the subject of much adoration on Twitter. One joked, “Nothing signifies major political events in Britain more than the reappearance of the hot podium guy.”

Mr. Gough expressed astonishment at the attention he received in 2019, telling MailOnline that he “isn’t model material.”

My phone has been lighting up all day with texts from teasing friends and family.

Some of my friends have suggested that I pose for a 2020 calendar, which has given me a good laugh.

I must have performed these sound checks hundreds of times in the 15 years I’ve been in the industry, and everything has gone as expected.

“I’m ensuring that all the microphones are correctly attached prior to the Prime Minister’s resignation address, and around half an hour later I’m in the news.”

People are proposing me for the position of prime minister and lavishing me with praise.

‘To be sure, it’s been a really flattering, though humorous, day’

Mr. Gough married his wife Tina in a peaceful ceremony in Scotland just two weeks before to the mayhem in May of 2019.

At the time, he stated, ‘I haven’t spoken to her yet, so I’m unsure of her reaction, but she’s responded positively to my messages.’
