With his grandma by his side, a four-year-old boy formally declared his male transition to the world with a blue gender reveal cannon at Vancouver’s Pride Parade.
Charlie Danger Lloyd, 27, of British Columbia, Canada, was born as a girl but now identifies as a man after expressing his wish to be a different gender since he was a child, according to his mother Alaina Bourrel. A video published on social media shows Charlie, who uses he/him pronouns, popping a confetti cannon with blue smoke pouring out of it in July to celebrate his choice. ‘Once they blocked the road, Charlie walked out with Grammy and faced the sidelines, and after a little struggle, the cannon erupted with blue smoke and biodegradable confetti,’ Alaina, Charlie’s mother, told the South West News Service.
‘Charlie leaped with delight as the throng applauded him. He couldn’t believe the outpouring of love and support from strangers.’ At the conclusion of the video, Charlie rushes into his mother’s arms. Bourrel said that the moment was inspired by the child’s earlier gender reveal before to his birth and how the smoke didn’t completely disappear.
‘When we told him the tale, he begged for a re-do with his grandma in the Vancouver Pride Parade, so we purchased him a smoke cannon and saved it for this day,’ she said.
The mother went on to say that her child’s happiness has gone a long way since she was continually ridiculed online by people accusing her of being a “pedophile, groomer, and rapist” for supporting her son’s transition.
Bourrel went on to say that Charlie became jealous of wanting to be a male at the age of two, often telling family members that he wanted to look ‘exactly like daddy.’ On most days, he would also attempt to persuade others that he was a guy.
‘He wasn’t your normal young lady. ‘He would play with other boys, and the parents would remark he was more of a boy than their own children,’ Bourrel said on her son’s childhood. She went on to say that they didn’t take Charlie’s requests seriously until the end of 2021, when he no longer wanted to go shopping for girl’s apparel and wanted to cut his hair short.
‘He refused to shop in the girls’ department but was too scared to shop in the guys,’ Bourrel said. ‘After much discussing his sentiments and emotions with me, he decided he needed a new clothing, so we went out to locate our new style,’ she says.
Charlie, four, wanted to experiment with his hairstyle after purchasing a new set of boy’s clothing.
‘We scheduled an appointment with Lia at Big Bros Barbershop in East Vancouver, a trans-owned and run business,’ Bourrel said. ‘When Charlie left the salon that day, he was a totally different youngster.’ As Charlie’s confidence grew, his parents saw the advantages of these adjustments.
‘It’s been four months since he started his social shift,’ she stated. ‘He is still a regular child who does perfectly typical little kid things like play with Lego[s], utilize his imagination, and learn to ride his bike,’ said his mother.
Despite the hatred directed at Charlie’s parents, who are often chastised for their support and for ‘brainwashing’ their kid, Bourrel said the family’s tight circle has been nothing but loud in their support for the four-year-old.
‘His choices were not questioned, and he was applauded, and everyone started using new pronouns,’ stated the young mother.
‘We are very fortunate to have the circle that we have,’ she continued, thanking the family’s inner circle.
