ASUU Strike: National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Announces Its Support for NLC Nationwide Solidarity Protest

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has declared its support for the Nigeria Labour Congress’s (NLC) planned two-day march in solidarity with the striking members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

Comrade NANS President Sunday Asefon made this declaration on Wednesday in Abuja.

The NLC’s leadership was praised by him for their tenacity and determination to work with well-meaning Nigerians to demand an end to the prolonged ASUU strike.

He stated, “While the NANS has organised several protests in the past with no tangible outcomes, our advocacy and consulting efforts have also been fruitless. We have activated political solutions and are optimistic that an end is imminent.

“However, we fully support the planned protest by the NLC, as we believe it will stem up the advocacy and help put sufficient pressure on the Federal Government to do all necessary to end the strike.

“Therefore, I urge all NANS structures across the nation to mobilise and join the NLC protest.” NANS will solely participate in the mobilisation of students to protest sites and will act in accordance with NLC directives. Throughout the duration of the protest, NANS structures across the nation shall subject to the leadership of the NLC.”
