Police have issued a shelter-in-place order to students at the University of Virginia as they search for a 23-year-old former football player suspected of opening fire on campus.
Police in Charlottesville describe Christopher Darnell Jones as armed and dangerous.
Sunday at 10:42 p.m., the UVA emergency management account tweeted, “UVA Alert: ACTIVE ATTACKER firearm reported in the vicinity of Culbreth Road.” “Flee Hide Fight”
Police have not disclosed whether any people were killed in the shooting.
Christopher Darnell Jones was identified as the suspect in Sunday’s shooting at the University of Virginia.
Sunday night, a police car is observed on the University of Virginia campus.
Students are urged to contact their families and friends to inform them that they are safe.
The university’s president, Jim Ryan, tweeted, “There has been a shooting on Culbreth Road, and the suspect is armed and considered dangerous.”
He requested that the community follow the UVA emergency Twitter account for alert updates and shelter in place.
Jones is from Petersburg, Virginia, according to his VirginiaSports.com profile.
He attended Varina High School for three years and Petersburg High School for his senior year.
