Archbishop Gomez condemns the attack on Paul Pelosi and prays for him

Paul Pelosi, the husband of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, was attacked at his San Francisco home on Friday morning, according to the president of the United States bishops’ conference.

Archbishop Jose Gomez of Los Angeles stated on October 28 that he is praying “for Paul Pelosi’s complete recovery and for his family’s comfort.”

CNN reports that Pelosi, 82, was struck with a hammer early Friday morning by a male assailant. The attacker was apparently searching for the House speaker and attempted to bind Pelosi.

The head of the USCCB continued, “I am extremely distressed by this violence, which has no place in our neighborhoods, our political system, or our beautiful nation. May Our Lady of Perpetual Help intervene on our behalf, bring us healing, and lead us to peace.”

Doctors expect Pelosi to make a full recovery after he underwent “successful surgery to treat a skull fracture and major damage to his right arm and hands,” according to a statement released early Friday evening by a representative for Nancy Pelosi.

In a Friday tweet, the Catholic archbishop of San Francisco, Salvatore Cordileone, requested prayers for Pelosi’s speedy recovery and for the consolation of his wife and family.
