Antonio Banderas: “My heart attack was one of the nicest things that ever happened to me.”

Antonio Banderas’ heart attack in 2017 prompted him to reevaluate his life’s priorities.

“I realized that it was probably one of the nicest things that ever happened to me,” he tells Page Six in an exclusive interview. “I was worrying every day about things that were not significant.”

Antonio Banderas believes that his heart attack in 2017 was one of the nicest things that has happened to him.

“I thought, why am I concerned if I’m going to die?” he explains. “I always knew [that I would die], but now I am certain. I’ve seen it right here.”

He adds that his daughter Stella, whom he shares with Melanie Griffith, his friends, his family, and his “passion as an actor” remained, but he began to remove himself from “things I thought were important before but weren’t actually.”

Following the incident, Banderas reordered his priorities, as depicted above with his daughter Stella.

The 62-year-old Spanish-born actor suffered a heart attack in January 2017 and credits his longtime lover Nicole Kimpel with saving his life by administering aspirin immediately.

In March of that year, he said it was not dangerous and caused no serious harm, but he did have three stents inserted into his arteries.

He told the reporters at the time, “It hasn’t been as dramatic as others have claimed.

The actor thanks his girlfriend Nicole Kimpel with administering him an aspirin promptly during his heart attack.

Soon, Banderas will reprise his role as the mischievous cat in “Puss in Boots: The Last Desire,” in which Puss realizes that he has exhausted eight of his nine lives and begins on a quest to retrieve the legendary last wish.

The Oscar contender admits that he has experienced low points in his life, but they don’t stay long because he is “by nature a pretty cheerful person. My depressions last five minutes and I soon recover.”

Currently, Banderas is promoting his latest film “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish.”

Banderas, who is presently performing in “Company” in Madrid, also hints at a long-awaited comeback to Broadway following his 2003 Tony Award for “Nine.”

“Something has been written as we speak,” he teases, adding that the character’s Iberian accent will make sense.

On December 21, “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish” debuts in theaters.
