As part of their ‘plant-based future’ campaign, two vegan activists splashed milk over the floors of the food halls of Fortnum & Mason and Selfridges in London today.
At 11:45 this morning, a male with a beard and a lady wearing a white dress entered Fortnum & Mason on Piccadilly and grabbed milk bottles off the shelf.
Animal Rebellion, an offshoot of the Extinction Rebellion group, spilled their bottles upon the red carpet of the store before leaving.
Soon after, at 12.30 p.m., they were captured on camera spilling milk over a cheese display at Selfridges on Oxford Street before being escorted out of the store by security officials.
The group also claimed that one of its demonstrators was ‘assaulted’ when a guy seemed to place his arm in front of a woman’s neck as he asked her to leave.

The woman in the film is Sofia Fernandes Pontes, a student and mother from the Portuguese island of Madeira, who stated, “I don’t want my children to grow up in a world plagued by drought, damage of environment, and food shortages.”

The guy in the films, Steve Bone, a father and photographer from Thorpe-Le-Soken, Essex, said: ‘I took action throughout September to advocate for a plant-based future, and I am taking action again today since Liz Truss and Ranil Jayawardena are still refusing to listen.

The activists removed milk bottles from Fortnum & Mason’s shelves before emptying them outside.
Today, the pair departed Fortnum & Mason following their protest concerning milk jugs.

The group highlighted a 2018 analysis from the University of Oxford as evidence that a global transition to plant-based agriculture would free up 76% of the land currently used for food production.
It also cited a 2019 Harvard University research on UK cropland and food production that determined “the UK would be carbon-negative if it moved entirely to a plant-based food system.”
In recent months, Animal Rebellion has organized a series of rallies aiming at disrupting the dairy business and putting pressure on the government to meet its demands.
Today, the protestors also staged a demonstration at Selfridges on Oxford Street.

After the Selfridges protest, demonstrators are eventually led out by security personnel.
The group also claimed that one of their protestors was ‘assaulted’ in Selfridges today, which looked to occur when a man placed his arm in front of a woman’s neck as he directed her to leave the store.

Its first demand is that the government “assist farmers and fishing communities to transition away from animal agriculture and fishing as part of an immediate and urgent transition to a plant-based food system.”
The second demand is that the government “commits to rewild the reclaimed land and ocean as part of a larger program of wildlife restoration and carbon reduction.”
Last month, the gang attempted to interrupt the delivery of dairy by gluing themselves to the entrance to a busy dairy facility in Droitwich, Worcestershire, in an attempt to shut off the supply at the source.
Members of the group were also arrested last month for spraying “fake milk” white paint on Big Ben prior to the first session of Prime Minister’s Questions hosted by Liz Truss.
