In this most recent animal observation, a mother warthog learns the hard way as three of her offspring are killed by crows.
This sighting occurred in Pilanesberg national park, per the website Latest Sightings.
A Pied Crow foraging at the side of the road. Slowly approaching, I saw it was consuming a newborn Warthog! Under some bushes, I observed another pied bird pecking at a writhing piglet.
Generally, crows are scavengers. They will take advantage of every opportunity to consume the remains of other creatures. However, nature displayed one of its rare moments in this circumstance. Who knows, perhaps starvation led these crows to murder many defenseless piglets.
Moments afterwards, the second corvid abandoned the piglet and located a third one. The crow continued to attack the still-moving piglet, despite the fact that the piglet’s mother was desperately attempting to save her dying offspring.
