Anambra State Government Criticized for Silence on ESN-Enforced Sit-at-Home Violence
Former presidential spokesman, Reno Omokri, has expressed his disapproval of the Anambra State Government’s silence regarding the violence caused by a sit-at-home order enforced by the Eastern Security Network (ESN).
Reports indicate that the ESN had shut down markets in the Onitsha area of Anambra State, leading to pandemonium and gunshots on Friday.
Government’s Silence and Selective Focus
Despite the unsettling incident, the state government has chosen not to address the issue.
In response, Reno Omokri took to his Instagram page to criticize the government’s inaction and contrast it with their swift response to the UTME result scandal involving Mmesoma Ejikeme.
He questioned why the government showed more passion in investigating a relatively minor issue while neglecting to address the unrest and violence in the state.
Omokri’s Concerns and Analogy
Expressing his concern, Omokri emphasized that gunshots were heard in Onitsha, a significant commercial hub in Anambra State.
The sit-at-home order was imposed by IPOB/ESN as a protest against the continued detention of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of IPOB.
Parents were forced to rush to schools to evacuate their children due to the chaotic situation.
Despite the gravity of the events, the Anambra State Government has not issued any statements, conducted a statewide broadcast, or provided updates to reassure its citizens.
Drawing a vivid analogy, Omokri questioned the priorities of the state government.
He criticized the establishment of a high-powered committee to investigate Mmesoma Ejikeme’s JAMB result, which received regular updates in the media, while neglecting the urgent need to address the violence and unrest in the state.
In conclusion, Omokri expressed his astonishment at the state government’s silence and selective focus, using the analogy of chasing a rat while one’s house is on fire to highlight the apparent misalignment of priorities.
