An update on legislation which provides for the protection, control and management of Eurasian beavers in England

The government has introduced laws that will strictly regulate the release of Eurasian beavers and their control following release today, July 21.

This continues the work programme that was began in 2014, which included a five-year trial to look into the River Otter’s reaction to beaver populations that live in the wild.

We presented an evaluation of the trial’s findings in 2020, and the government subsequently opened a consultation on our suggested management strategy that ended in November 2021.

In due course, more information on the management regime will be made public.
