Amy Hiner, a woman from England, almost died from necrotizing fasciitis and sepsis after undergoing a routine cesarean section.
The condition caused her to lose half of her stomach, and she was given only hours to live. Hiner was first diagnosed with Strep A, which turned into sepsis and then flesh-eating bug necrotizing fasciitis.
During surgery to remove the “retained products” from her system, the infection on her stomach had to be cut out, and her condition worsened.
Hiner was rushed back into surgery, and surgeons had to cut all the way from her belly button to her bikini line to save her life.
She was left with a massive hole in her stomach, which had to be packed with bandages and a pump that removed the fluid and excess dead tissue.
After almost a year, the wound healed, but she did not qualify for reconstructive surgery.
Hiner suffered from nightmares, night terrors, and panic attacks after the ordeal, which led to PTSD and post-sepsis syndrome.
She had three years of therapy to cope with the trauma.
Hiner has now recovered, fulfilled her life-long dream of owning an ice cream truck, and even started modeling.
She won a modeling competition in December and began receiving offers to work in the industry.
Hiner is planning to expand her business by purchasing a second ice cream truck and a warm-food trailer.
She is saving up for a tummy tuck, which will cost approximately $10,000.
Hiner knows that her stomach is not “perfect,” but she doesn’t think it should matter to anyone else, either.
