The late footballer, who was just 21 years old when England defeated West Germany 4-2 in the 1966 World Cup final, wore the number seven red shirt. In addition, he received a medal that sold for twice its expected price at sale this week and a blue England cap that got £145,000 at auction.

The former Manchester City and Southampton manager died of a heart attack at the age of 61 in 2007. He was the second member of the winning side to pass away, following Bobby Moore in 1993.

His World Cup mementos from 1966 were sold to industrialist Edwin Davies, the former owner of Bolton Wanderers, in 2005.

However, when he passed away in 2018, the objects were abandoned. They were auctioned off by Tennants Auctioneers in Leyburn, North Yorkshire, earlier this week.

The medal sold for twice its projected pre-sale price of £120,000, surpassing the previous record of £188,000 set in 2010 by Nobby Styles’ World Cup winner’s medal. It also surpassed the medal owned by Ray Wilson, which sold for £136,000 at auction in 2014.

Keegan Harrison, a sports expert at Tennants, stated, ‘It was a fantastic outcome that exceeded our expectations.

The blue England cap awarded to Ball upon the team’s 1966 triumph sold for £150,000.

It was an honor to handle such a significant piece of English athletic history.

The 1966 World Cup victory will forever be remembered as a crowning achievement in English sporting history. It has been 56 years since that magnificent contest, yet all football fans still hold it in high regard.
