Airbnb hosts are canceling previous reservations for the weekend of Eurovision in Liverpool.
People’s pre-booked accommodations were canceled without explanation just days after it was confirmed that the song contest would be held in the city on behalf of Ukraine.
Since the announcement, costs to stay in the city for the Eurovision weekend on May 13 have skyrocketed, with some Airbnb hosts charging more than £10,000 per night.
Booking.com reports that 99 percent of its accommodations in the city are booked, with the remaining rooms retailing for up to £2,000 per night.
On the 13th of May, a one-night stay at the Eleanor Rigby Apartments Stanley Street will cost a couple £5,760, a ‘cozy’ two-bedroom property in Liverpool will cost £5,375, and a 10-bedroom home will set you back more than £8,000.
However, some clever Eurovision fans who had pre-booked accommodations in the city in expectation of the competition being held there were left disappointed when the hosts abruptly canceled their bookings.
As a result of the announcement that Liverpool will host the Eurovision song contest on behalf of Ukraine, AirBnb hosts are canceling existing reservations.
On Friday evening, Graham Norton announced on BBC’s the One that Liverpool will host the prestigious song contest on May 13.
One man stated that he reserved and paid for an Airbnb for the song contest, but 12 hours later it was cancelled. He alleges it was placed back on the website with a 204% markup.
Another man who booked a hotel in anticipation of Liverpool hosting the event had his reservation canceled on the grounds that his credit card had expired.
Some have even witnessed their booked accommodations re-advertised online with a significant price increase.
Many have gone to social media to vent their discontent with the accommodation sites.
Buzz O’Neill-Maxwell, events manager, stated, ‘Had hotel rooms reserved in Liverpool and Glasgow in anticipation of the Eurovision announcement on booking.com eons ago.
Then this notice appears and the reservation is canceled (nothing wrong with my credit card at all of course.) Complete gamblers. Currently, prices are crazy.

Another individual who reserved an Airbnb to stay in Liverpool in June was astonished to discover that the host had canceled the reservation the day after it was announced that the city would host the event.
The email stated, “We cannot wait for your stay. On these dates, the property will no longer be accessible. Please accept the request for cancellation to obtain a full refund.
When asked about the reason for the cancellation, the host responded, “There was an issue on the booking calendar.”
And they are not alone; one woman rented a hotel in Liverpool for a wedding going place the same weekend, only to discover that the event has been canceled and room rates have increased.
Some have criticized Lastminute.com, stating that their accommodations were canceled because of Eurovision.
A woman reserved a hotel in Liverpool for a wedding taking place on the same day as the music contest. She then cancelled the event and witnessed the sale of thousands of rooms.
A woman said that her reservation on lastminute.com was canceled due to a “rate hike.”
She stated, “We had four rooms reserved for a wedding in Liverpool on the 13th of May, but I just received an update stating that my reservation is now for the 14th.”
“My reservation, which was $260, is now $3,500.” Booking.com is now battling for us.
Another individual added, “Booked and paid for an Airbnb in Liverpool for the weekend of Eurovision.”
“After 12 hours, the reservation was canceled and relisted at a staggering 204% premium.” You people are complete fools.
lastminute.com has also received criticism after some of its Liverpool-based hosts began canceling existing reservations.
A woman wrote, “Shocking profiteering by hoteliers in Liverpool. I had two nights scheduled and paid for in May, but I was recently informed that my reservation has been canceled.
“No justification provided.” I made my reservation through lastminute.com, who informed me of the ‘rate increase’ I am absolutely repulsed.
Liverpool will host Eurovision on behalf of Ukraine, who won the contest in May 2022.
Another added, ‘Lastminute.com’s avarice and profiteering are revolting.
“Booked a room in Liverpool for Eurovision, but the company will not honor the reservation because it can now be sold for a much higher price.”

Graham Norton announced Friday evening on the BBC’s the One where the song contest would be held.
Liverpool and Glasgow have competed for the song contest after being selected as the two finalists.
Typically, the previous year’s winner hosts the following year’s song contest.
In May, Ukraine won the Eurovision Song Contest 2022 in Turin, Italy, but the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) determined that the contest could not be staged in Ukraine due to the Russian invasion.
The United Kingdom, who placed second due to Sam Ryder’s performance, announced that it would host the tournament on behalf of the war-torn country.
AirBnb, Booking.com, and Lastminute.com have each been requested to comment.
