A road that reopened after a three-month, 500,000-pound renovation will be closed once again because a speed bump was almost five centimeters too high.
Norfolk County Council had little choice but to re-dust the “Road Closed” signs when it became clear that drivers would experience the hump as a result of the bump damaging the underneath of their vehicles.
The municipality only became aware of the error with the traffic calming device on Norwich’s South Park Avenue because it seemed to have been damaged.
Norwich’s South Park Avenue, which reopened after a nearly $500,000 renovation, will be closed once again because a speed hump was approximately five centimeters too high.
The speed bump was 4.5 cm higher than it should have been, according to tape measure tests.
The road in Eaton Park had been blocked to traffic for three months for a £470,000 renovation when the discovery was made.
It will now have to be shut down for a day in order to lower the height of the bump.
“I believe this only goes to demonstrate the significance of having work done right the first time,” said Brian Watkins, a Liberal Democrat county councilor for Eaton (pictured).
The roadworks sign lists the closure date inaccurately as 31/09/22, a date that doesn’t exist, when it should be 31/08/22, further embarrassing the authority.
The speed cushion on South Park Avenue, between Buckingham Road and Colman Road, near the mailbox, was reportedly having problems, the council said.
The local highway technician looked into this and discovered minor damage to the speed cushion’s surface.
The cushion was higher than the design standard, which was found upon closer scrutiny.
Therefore, this cushion will be taken out and replaced on Wednesday, August 31. Our contractor will pay for this job.
To minimize interruption to the surrounding schools, the work was planned to happen during the summer.
Eaton County Councillor for the Liberal Democrats, Brian Watkins, said, “I believe this simply goes to illustrate how important it is to do work right the first time.
This shouldn’t have been let to occur. While work is being done, there should be individuals there to ensure that it is being done according to specifications.
The disruption that individuals and companies are now going to suffer would have been prevented if this had happened.
The renovation took longer than the nine weeks it was supposed to, by two weeks.
A new zebra crossing was added, and the roadway was enlarged and paved.
