Call for Support in Healthcare Infrastructure
A plea has been issued to corporate organizations, philanthropists, and civil societies operating within the Eti-Osa, Ibeju-Lekki, and Epe regions of Lagos State. The call urges them to join forces with the State Government in bolstering healthcare infrastructure to meet the growing demands of local residents.
Appeal by Lagos State Health District III Permanent Secretary
Dr. Monsurat Adeleke, the Permanent Secretary of Lagos State Health District III, emphasized the need for collaboration during her recent visit to assess the condition of Primary Health Care Centres (PHCs) across the District. Despite the District having the highest number of PHCs in the State, she highlighted the necessity for refurbishment and expansion due to increasing health needs and the rapid growth along the Lekki-Epe corridor.
Corporate Social Responsibility and Support for Health Centers
Dr. Adeleke made a passionate appeal to corporate organizations to consider adopting or constructing PHCs as part of their Corporate Social Responsibilities (CSR). Such initiatives would significantly contribute to enhancing the State’s healthcare sector and benefiting its citizens.
Acknowledgment of Collaborative Efforts
Expressing gratitude for the collaboration between the Bill Gates Foundation and Lagos State Health Management Agency (LASHMA), which facilitated the registration of 250 indigent residents in the Ikate community, Dr. Adeleke highlighted the potential for improving the quality of life for beneficiaries through continued support from the Foundation.
Achievements in Healthcare Access
Dr. Adeleke underscored the significance of enrolling 250 indigent beneficiaries, marking a noteworthy achievement of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration in providing free healthcare services to underserved communities and advancing universal health coverage.
Commitment to Broader Healthcare Coverage
She pledged to leverage her position to attract additional interventions from local and international health development partners, with the goal of enhancing healthcare access at the grassroots level. The aim is to ensure that a wider population can access comprehensive, high-quality healthcare services through local health centers.
Strengthening Collaboration with Local Authorities
During her visit, the Permanent Secretary also met with the Executive Chairman of Ikoyi-Obalende LCDA, Hon Fuad Atanda Lawal, and the Chairperson of Iru-Victoria Island LCDA, Hon. Princess Rasheedat Abiodun. She observed improvements in their respective PHCs, including staff recruitment, equipment procurement, renovations, and ambulance acquisition. Both Council leaders committed to fostering stronger collaborations to upgrade additional Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) within their jurisdictions.
