Adam Devine rips Paramount+ for canceling ‘Workaholics’ 5 weeks before filming

Adam Devine is speaking out about the unexpected cancellation of the Workaholics feature by Paramount+, stating that the production team was informed just five weeks before filming was scheduled to begin. It appears that Paramount+ completely botched this one.

Devine, who co-created the series with co-stars Blake Anderson and Anders Holmes, as well as Kyle Newacheck, Connor Pritchard, and Dominic Russo, lamented the show’s demise on Instagram.

“Well, Paramount + has canceled the Workaholics film. Clearly, this news is the dirtiest hole in the ground,” the comic wrote. We were scheduled to start filming in five weeks.

Devine asserted that Paramount+ informed him and his co-creators that they “don’t fit their new ‘global’ strategy,” adding, “We were so excited to bring the strange one last time.”

Devine stated that the film is “out to other streamers” and that he will elaborate on the topic on his podcast, Pod Important, which he co-hosts with Holm, Newacheck, and Anderson, tomorrow.

“As usual, take it sleazy, and I’m out,” he concluded, signing off with Adam DeMamp’s character name.

Holmes shared Devine’s Instagram post on his Instagram story and wrote that the film “needs a new home.” Anderson shared the feeling in his own account, adding, “I was quite excited about this reunion. We’ll have to wait and see…”

Workaholics previously aired on Comedy Central, which is owned by Paramount Networks, between 2011 and 2017. Therefore, it was logical that the show’s rebirth would occur on the studio’s eponymous streaming channel.

The comic sitcom follows three roommates who work at a telemarketing company together, as well as their regular interactions with their drug dealer. After getting a two-season renewal, the seventh season marked the show’s conclusion. Variety noted that the three have upcoming projects at the time of the conclusion.

Holmes went on to star in the Fox comedy series Champions and, more recently, the Netflix series Inventing Anna; Anderson has starred in a number of animated projects and the comedy series Woke; and Devine starred in and executive produced the Pitch Perfect spin-off Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin, following a number of roles in television and film.

In February 2021, the Workaholics film was revealed alongside a comedy lineup that included a new Beavis And Butthead film from Mike Judge and five Inside Amy Schumer specials.

Devine appeared to hint the 2020 resurrection by uploading a photo on Instagram with Holmes, Anderson, and the series’ signature beat-up Volvo. “It’s a free-for-all in the Vietnam War,” he wrote in the caption.
